Ambu signs Power Purchase Agreement with Cleantech Solar in Malaysia

A 923 kWp on-site PV system will be built on the rooftop of Ambu’s manufacturing and R&D buildings in Penang, Malaysia. The project will be fully financed, designed, owned and operated by Cleantech Solar throughout the long-term power purchase agreement and it will be built in partnership with Solarvest Holdings Berhad.

Penang, Malaysia, 7 January 2020 – Cleantech Solar and Ambu Sdn. Bhd. have entered into a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) to benefit from a 923 kWp solar PV system that will be installed across Ambu’s manufacturing and research and development buildings in Bayan Lepas, Penang.

The PV system would be installed by Solarvest Holdings Berhad and is expected to be fully operational by mid-2020. The solar PV system, is expected to generate over 23,700 MWh of clean energy, avoiding 16,400 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions across the agreement’s terms. Through this arrangement, Ambu will benefit from savings on electricity costs and also see an improvement on its environmental performance as the company lowers its dependency on non-renewal energy, without having to invest its own capital.

“Ambu has a goal to reduce CO2 emissions by 50% by 2025 and this project takes us closer to this goal, presenting a great opportunity to demonstrate our commitment towards building a sustainable future. Using the renewable electricity generated from the rooftop solar power plants to power our facilities will not only lower our operating costs, it will also reduce the carbon intensity in our daily business operations. Cleantech Solar impressed us with their track record in Malaysia and the region. We are in the medical device industry where failure is never an option, and as a result we have to pick partners that we know will deliver and we look forward to the long-term partnership ahead,” said Mr. Sonny Goh, Vice President, Penang Operations from Ambu.

Mr. Raju Shukla, Cleantech Solar’s Founder and Executive Chairman said, “Solar adoption amongst corporate leaders is gaining momentum in Malaysia. This is further evidence that the solar technology is getting more and more cost competitive as compared to conventional power and that companies are also increasingly keen on embracing sustainable business practices. We are delighted to embark on this solar partnership with Ambu, a leading multinational medical device maker, that will further expand our already-impressive portfolio of solar power plants in Malaysia.”
